If You Break A Needle...

If you break a needle while stitching out a design (see "Needle Selection" tip) then be SURE you remove all the pieces of the needle from the stitching area and the special Fuwari pad. If you leave it in, then the finishing process will not work properly, causing your design to have a flaw.

When we finish designs in our shop, we run the design under a metal detector first.  Your local dealer may do the same thing if they are finishing your designs, but rather than have them "reject" your design, you should remove any broken needle pieces that you can find yourself.  You may not see a needle piece, but you can usually feel them by squeezing the design area.

Needle Selection

1) Sharp Needles:  Always use SHARP needles (not ball-point) for Fuwari designs. Also - for best results we recommend you use a new needle for each design.

2) Needle Size:  A needle size of "80/12" is used for best results.  A smaller needle (ie: 75/11) is too thin to handle the added stress of the thicker thread and will result in a broken needle.

3) Ball-Point Needles:  In a word... "Not for Fuwari".  The ball points are not able to easily pass through the special pads used by Fuwari designs.

Re-Sizing Fuwari Designs

Do NOT re-size a Fuwari design.  The stitch properties are set to an extremely close tolerance and any re-sizing will cause the design to lose the Fuwari effect.

Color Sorting Fuwari Designs

Fuwari designs are already color sorted when you receive them.  Do NOT attempt to re-sort the colors!  If the colors are re-sorted or combined then the design will not stitch out properly.

Bobbin Thread

Fuwari bobbin thread is a special type of thread that seals the back of the design when heated properly.  One characteristic of this special thread is that it is thicker than "normal" bobbin thread.  This means when you wind a bobbin full of Fuwari bobbin thread, there will be less thread on the bobbin than with ordinary bobbin thread.

When the bobbin thread get's low - go ahead and change it.  Don't wait for it to run out!  When it gets low, it puts stress on the needle.

Soft Side Up!

The Fuwari pad has a top and a bottom side.  If you stitch on it with the wrong side up then your design can't be finished!  How can you tell which side is up?

Examine the Fuwari pad closely.  You'll notice that one side has a soft finish while the other side is hard.  You must place the hard side against your fabric, leaving the soft side exposed for the embroidery needle to enter first.
